| | | Session 1B: Combustible Dusts and Vapor Cloud Explosions- The Evil Twins |
| | | 2/3/2010 1:00 p.m. - 2:15 p.m. |
| | | Seminar Description: Global industrial combustible dust explosions and fires in the manufacturing, non-manufacturing, and utility sectors are a constant threat in the workplace. In contrast, vapor cloud explosion in the chemical and refinery sectors have similar damaging effects as combustible dust explosions. A basic understanding of the dynamics of vapor cloud explosions assists stakeholders in understanding the initiating mechanisms of dust explosions. The educational session will provide attendees a fundamental overview in the explosion severity and ignition sensitivity of dust explosions and vapor cloud explosions, which have the same explosive damaging after effects of overpressure, thermal radiation, and ensuing projectiles. |
